Another 65 arrested for flouting Covid-19 SOPs

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 23: Police arrested 65 individuals yesterday over recovery movement control order-related offences.

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 63 were fined and the other two remanded.

He said most of the arrests were for not wearing face masks.

The other offences included operating businesses illegally, failure to maintain physical distancing, leaving a targeted enhanced movement control order (TEMCO) area without a valid reason, failure to record customers’ details and failure to pay quarantine fees.

Ismail said 2,950 compliance task force teams checked 15,193 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

On mandatory home quarantine, he said 32,963 people who arrived through KLIA from July 24 to Sept 22 were screened for Covid-19 and placed under quarantine.

Seventy-one tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, and 24,652 allowed to return home. Some 8,240 are undergoing mandatory quarantine.
