Thailand may enter endemic stage as early as July this year – Study

BANGKOK, March 7 — Thailand may enter endemic phase as early as July this year as the COVID-19 situation is seen improving due to the high vaccination rate and good public healthcare system.

Foreign Affairs Ministry’s deputy spokesman Natapanu Nopaku said a study conducted by Public Health Ministry attributed Thailand’s transition to endemic phase being the result of the kingdom’s success in dealing with the pandemic.  

“The study stated that good leadership, management, human resources, medicine,  medical facilities, good supply of vaccines and most importantly participation and dedication by all sectors and society.

“The status should change from pandemic to endemic by July this year,” he said at a press conference here today.

He added that countries such as Spain, India and United States also getting ready to treat COVID-19 as endemic.

“Experts believe that the pandemic is approaching its end because new variants appear less dangerous. Besides that, the rate of infections in Thailand is slowing down and should improve to enter the endemic stage by July, ” he said.

Over the last 24 hours, Thailand recorded 21,162 new COVID-19 cases and 65 fatalities, bringing the total infections in the kingdom to 3,047,857 and 23,300 deaths to date.
