BNM issues commemorative coins in conjunction with mint’s 50th anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has issued commemorative coins in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of its mint, Kilang Wang.

BNM governor Tan Sri Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus said Kilang Wang has been minting beautiful coins with designs that Malaysians love for the past five decades. 

“Kilang Wang celebrates our country’s cultural heritage while showcasing the mint’s expert craftsmanship and technology,” she said in a statement today.

Established on July 10, 1971, Kilang Wang is the official mint for Malaysia’s coins.

The commemorative coins will be issued in two denominations, namely Copper Commemorative Coin (proof) and Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U.) Commemorative Coin.

Copper Commemorative Coin (proof) has a face value of RM5 and is available in three shapes, namely Wau, Gasing and Congkak, each weighing 36.6 grammes, 21.7 grammes and 22.8 grammes, respectively, and will be sold at RM220 a piece. 

Meanwhile, the Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U.) Commemorative Coin is made of copper and several other metals, weighing 8.5 grammes.

The coin has a face value of RM1 and will be sold at RM13.20 per piece.

The commemorative coins are also available in a set of three, priced at RM605 per set, each comprising one Wau, one Gasing and one Congkak copper proof coin.

The commemorative coins are available for purchase starting today, and those who are interested can place their orders at https://duit.bnm.gov.my.
