Foreign Ministry to expedite process of bringing back victims of job scams in Myanmar – Mohamad

BEIJING, Nov 18 — Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin said his ministry would expedite the process of follow up action to assist and repatriate Malaysians who are victims of job scams in Myanmar.

“We will initiate a number of follow up actions to ensure the process will become a solid procedure to repatriate Malaysians who are victims of job scams.

“On behalf of Wisma Putra, we are happy when several issues were discussed and accepted during Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof’s visit to China…for example the main issue that we deal with regularly is job scams and how to assist Malaysians who have become victims of job scams in several countries, not just Myanmar.

“But for what happened in Myanmar, the result was very positive when we received cooperation and assistance from China,” he told members of the media when attending a press conference held by Fadillah who ended his official visit to China today (Nov 18) and is expected to return home tomorrow.

Earlier, Fadillah said China has pledged its commitment to assist Malaysian who have become victims of job scams in Myanmar.

Fadillah said he was informed that there are hundreds of cases involving Malaysians who have become victims of job scams in Myanmar.

“When trapped in such scams, they (victims) will not have passports and therefore cannot leave that particular country. Therefore, a lot of effort is needed to ensure the process of bringing them back,” he said.
