Xi Jinping to visit France, Serbia, Hungary in May

BEIJING, April 30 – Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay state visits to France, Serbia and Hungary from May 5 to 10, the first visit to Europe by China’s head of state in nearly five years.

The Foreign ministry announced on Monday that the visits are at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron of the Republic of France, President Aleksandar Vučić of the Republic of Serbia, and President Tamás Sulyok and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary, respectively.

Spokesperson Lin Jian said at a press briefing that Xi will hold talks with Macron and exchange in-depth views on China-France and China-Europe relations as well as international and regional hotspot issues of common concern.

Xi’s visit marks the second state visit by China’s head of state to France in five years. It coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France.

Lin said during the visit to Serbia, Xi will hold talks with President Vučić to exchange in-depth views on China-Serbia relations, and international and regional issues of common concern.

While in Hungary, the Chinese leader is scheduled to hold talks with President Sulyok and Prime Minister Orbán.
