KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 17 –Heavy rain in several areas in Terengganu since yesterday morning has forced 21 people from five families to be evacuated to two relief centers (PPS) in the state.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, in a statement, said the first PPS was opened at 1.30 am today at  Sekolah Kebangsaan Kasar, Hulu Nerus, in the Setiu district, to accommodate a family of four.

“Another PPS was opened in the Dungun district at 6.30 am today at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Pasir Raja to house 17 victims from four families,” it said.

Currently, heavy rain is reported in most places and residents in risk areas are advised to be alert and to evacuate immediately when instructed by the authorities.

Meanwhile, the Drain and Irrigation Department, through its portal, https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my, reported that the reading at the flood assessment points of two rivers in Terengganu exceeded the danger level.

They are at Sungai Dungun in Pasir Raja, measuring 37.56 metre (m) (danger level is 37.5m) and Sungai Tebak at Jambatan Tebak, Kemaman, at 18.89 m which exceeds the danger level of 18.5m.

Meanwhile, two roads in Kemaman , Jalan Pelatoh to Lubuk Lesung and Jambatan Lama Teladas are under 0.4 metre of water and closed to light vehicles. Motorists are advised to use alternative roads.
