KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — Malaysia’s coronavirus disease (Covid-19) infections fell to another recent low today, with just 69 cases reported.
According to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, 201 more Covid-19 patients have also fully recovered and been discharged.
However, he also reported two more Covid-19 deaths, raising the country’s death toll to 86.
“This brings the total of those fully recovered and discharged to 2,967 cases or 56.5 per cent of all cases detected.
“As such, the number of those discharged today is nearly three times that of new cases reported,” Dr Noor Hisham pointed out.
Today’s number is the second time that new cases have fallen into the double digit range, after Dr Noor Hisham reported just 85 new cases on Wednesday, and is the lowest since March 14 when the country recorded 35 infections.
The latest deaths involve two Malaysian men aged 85 and 86, both of whom had pre-existing medical issues.
The Health D-G said there were still 2,198 active cases in the country, with 51 needing intensive care and 26 on respiratory support.
