KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — The Malaysian Film Directors Association (FDAM) welcomes the government’s decision to allow the industry players to continue with their production work after Aidilfitri.
Although their appeal to be allowed to do continue with their work before the Aidilfitri was not met, the decision to allow them to do so after the festival was a relief, especially the production crew, whose income was affected following enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) since two months ago, said its president, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim.
“We do hope to get back to work before Hari Raya, but Alhamdulillah, even after the Aidilfitri, we are also grateful. This is the most valuable Hari Raya gift for the film makers. InsyaAllah, FDAM will ensure compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP),” he said in a statement to Bernama today.
The good news was announced by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah last night during the Harith Iskander Stay Home Live Facebook Episode entitled ‘The Future of Live Entertainment’ Post-Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
According to FDAM data, there are about 875 film and television activists including 35 FDAM members from 35 production companies who have lost their source of income following enforcement of the MCO on March 18.
