TANJUNG MALIM, Aug 14 — More than 500 police personnel will be on duty to monitor the nomination process for the Slim state by-election tomorrow.

Muallim District police chief Supt Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the police will mount two roadblocks at Km117 of Jalan Persekutuan southbound and KM 121 northbound towards the nomination centre at the Tanjung Malim District Council (MDTM) beginning 6.30 am.

“Entry to the nomination centre will be closed from the MDTM junction from Jalan Persekutuan which is opposite of Petronas Behrang 2020 as well as the entry route to MDTM via Jalan Mesra Perdana,” he told a media conference here today.

He said candidates from Barisan Nasional would be allowed in via Jalan Wawasan Perdana, while candidates from other parties via Jalan Persekutuan.

He stressed that only three individuals; the candidates, the proposer and the seconder are allowed to enter the nomination centre while gathering activities are not allowed during the nomination day.

Sulizmie Affendy added ‘ceramah’ (political talks) during the campaigning period should have police permits. However, no permits are needed for door-to-door campaigning.

He also reminded supporters to refrain from creating provocations during the campaigning period apart from complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The police would not hesitate to take actions on those found violating the SOP, he added.

On a related matter, Sulizmie Affendy said 277 of police personnel would be involved in the early voting on Aug 25 at the Muallim District police headquarters.

The Slim state by-election is being held following the death of incumbent Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib on July 15.

The Election Commission has set nomination on Aug 15, early voting on Aug 25 and polling on Aug 29.
