KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — The Sala Cluster in Yan district is the latest COVID-19 cluster to have been detected in Kedah, with the index case being a Malaysian man, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said the man (case 9,148) was confirmed positive on Aug 13 via the Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) clinical surveillance system at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Kedah.

“Following that, active case detection and close contact tracing were done on Aug 14 and positive cases were confirmed on Aug 15. The three cases reported today are family members of the first patient (case 9,148),” he said in a statement today on COVID-19 updates.

Dr Noor Hisham said as of today, 79 close contacts of the index case had been screened, and of this number, three were tested positive and 76 are still awaiting their results.

He said all four cases from this cluster are Malaysians and the source of infection is still being investigated.

“Active case detection is continuing and prevention and containment measures like sanitisation and disinfection processes have been conducted at identified locations,” he added.

On the latest status of the Tawar Cluster in Kedah, Dr Noor Hisham said 12 new cases were reported today — 10 in Kedah and two in Penang — bringing the number of positive cases in the cluster to 33.
