KUALA LUMPUR,Aug 18: The government is looking at making the use of the MySejahtera app mandatory and doing away with the manual registration of personal data.

Special Functions Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said discussions are underway with the Attorney-General’s Chambers and National Security Council on ways to implement the move.

The Alor Gajah MP also said the MySejahtera app was part of the new culture that the government is encouraging members of the public to adopt post-Covid-19.

He was responding to Lee Boon Chye (PH-Gopeng) who asked about the app’s limitations following the identification of new hot spot such as the Sivagangga and Tawar clusters in Kedah.

He earlier said that 15.1 million users had registered with the app as of Aug 16, 322 of whom were found to have Covid-19.

“This shows that the app has helped detect users with Covid-19,” he said.

He added that the app, which includes a hotspot tracker, had helped the health ministry carry out contact tracing.
