KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit southwest of Sumatra, Indonesia at 8.39 am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement said the quake occurred at 154 kilometres west of Bengkulu, Indonesia with a depth of 34 kilometres.

The quake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said.
