PETALING JAYA,Sept 17: A total of 584 people were arrested yesterday for flouting the recovery movement control order (RMCO), including 292 at pubs and nightclubs, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

In a statement, he said 568 were fined and 16 remanded.

Other offences include not recording the particulars of guests, failure to wear face masks, participation in activities that made physical distancing difficult and premises opened past normal operating hours.

Ismail said police had set up 81 roadblocks across the country from which 65 illegal immigrants were arrested and 10 vehicles seized.

Of the 29,748 people who arrived at KLIA between July 24 and Sept 16, all of whom had been screened for Covid-19, 20,160 have completed their quarantine and were sent home while 9,517 were still undergoing quarantine. A further 71 people have been sent to hospitals.

Ismail also said a total of 1,571 checks were conducted at various premises where 15 were found to not be in compliance with the SOPs under the RMCO.
