KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has conveyed his condolences to the family of Batu Sapi Member of Parliament Datuk Liew Vui Keong, who died today.

Muhyiddin said he knew Liew as a person dedicated to his work and responsibility.

“I received news about the death of Datuk Liew Vui Keong, the MP for Batu Sapi. My family and I wish to extend our condolences to the family on the loss of their loved one,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

On behalf of the government, Muhyiddin also expressed its highest appreciation and gratitude on the late Liew’s contributions during his tenure as an MP and Minister in the Primer Minister’s Department.

Liew is believed to have died of a lung infection at the Gleneagles Hospital in Kota Kinabalu at 11.50 am today.

He was earlier reported to be in critical condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Liew, 60, from Kota Belud, was elected as Batu Sapi MP in the 14th General Election and had served as a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Warisan Permanent Chairman.

He leaves a wife, Datin Dr Lindai Lee, and four children.
