WASHINGTON, Nov 8 (Bernama) — UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and running mate Kamala Harris after multiple outlets called the US presidential race for the former vice president, Sputnik news agency reported.

“Congratulations to Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States and to Kamala Harris on her historic achievement,” Johnson said via Twitter.

“The US is our most important ally and I look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities from climate change to trade and security,” he said.

French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated Biden and Harris for the victory.

“The Americans have chosen their President. Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris! We have a lot to do to overcome today’s challenges. Let’s work together!” Macron wrote on Twitter.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday also congratulated the pair, saying she looked forward to working together with the 77-year-old Biden.

“The American citizens have made their choice. Joe Biden will be the 46th president of the United States of America,” she said in a statement, adding that Harris would become the country’s first female vice president.

“I look forward to the future cooperation with President Biden. Our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we want to take on the big challenges of our time,” the chancellor added.
