PETALING JAYA,Dec 9: All Perak PAS assemblymen have been instructed to meet Sultan Nazrin Shah once they receive the decree from the ruler.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party did not want to be misunderstood in its decision after it sought to call off the assemblymen’s audience with Sultan Nazrin yesterday.

Bernama had quoted Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria as saying that this followed a directive from the party’s central leadership.

In a statement today, Takiyuddin maintained that PAS always respects and upholds the sovereignty of the monarchy, adding that any matters related to the institution needs to be done carefully and in a polite manner.

“PAS will work with our partners in Perikatan Nasional to resolve the political turmoil in Perak in the best way possible for the future of our religion, race and country,” he said.

Sultan Nazrin had met with various leaders yesterday at Istana Kinta, including Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, state Umno chairman Saarani Mohamad and three Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders.

After his audience with the sultan, Zahid claimed that the party’s menteri besar candidate had sufficient support to form the new government as PAS and PPBM had agreed to back the candidate.

The sultan was supposed to hold an audience with all PAS and PPBM assemblymen at 3pm yesterday to prove their support for the Umno candidate and to form the new government, but this was called off by PAS’ central leadership.

The state remains without a menteri besar, following the resignation of Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who lost the confidence of the state assembly last week.
