Kuala Lumpur Jan 31: The health ministry has reported 5,298 Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The new cases today involved 5,295 local infections and three imported cases.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases again with 2,460, while Johor also reported four-digit infections (1,020).

States and the federal territories that recorded three-digit infections were Kuala Lumpur (783), Sabah (298), Melaka (153) and Sarawak (135).

They were followed by Terengganu (83), Pahang (74), Penang (69), Perak (63), Kedah (53), Negeri Sembilan (42), Kelantan (30), Labuan (24), Putrajaya (6) and Perlis (5).

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 4,522 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 166,049.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 214,959.

There are 48,150 active cases with 313 patients being treated in intensive care and 127 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 14 deaths take the number of fatalities to 760.
