PETALING JAYA,Mar 19: Pakatan Harapan has not made any decision on working with Umno in the next general election despite what the coalition leader Anwar Ibrahim has said, Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said.

“We haven’t committed to working together (with Umno) during the general election,” he told reporters after attending a PH presidential council meeting yesterday.

He was asked if the cooperation with Umno had been raised at the meeting.

Salahuddin said that Anwar, the opposition leader, had again clarified that recent discussions with Umno was merely a regular meeting.

Asked if the PH components were open to working with Umno, Salahuddin reiterated that no decision had been reached.

“We discussed it, but nothing has been finalised.”

Two days ago, Anwar, the PKR president, said that discussions between PKR and Umno on cooperation before the next general election were ongoing but “nothing has been formalised yet”.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had told Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Feb 26 that his party would not ally itself with PPBM in the next general election.

Umno had helped Muhyiddin to bring down the previous Pakatan Harapan administration, but over the last few months, ties between the two parties have strained.

This had led to talk that Umno might be open to working with Pakatan Harapan, although several Umno leaders had come to deny the possibility.
