KOTA BHARU, May 6 — Five individuals, including two women, were arrested and 800 kilogrammes (kg) of ketum leaves worth an estimated RM80,000 were seized in a house in Kampung Geting, Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat, near here, yesterday.

Pengkalan Kubor Marine Police Third Region commander ACP Norzaid Muhammad Said said the five Malaysians, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested by a team of personnel conducting a Festival Season (Aidilfitri) Special Ops Benteng at 10 pm.

He said that the team, which was monitoring a house, saw two male suspects loading 11 transparent plastic bags, believed to be filled with ketum leaves, into a car parked in front of the house.

“The personnel then arrested the two men and, upon inspecting the house, found 2,982 packets containing ketum leaves.

“The total amount of ketum leaves seized is 800 kg and estimated to be worth RM80,000. Also detained were the three suspects in the house,” he said in a statement today, adding that the total seizure, including the car, was RM90,000.
