KUCHING, May 7  — The creative field that will be highlighted in Kuching city’s application to become a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) will be finalised soon.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the matter was currently being discussed between the ministry, Sarawak state government and Kuching South City Council.

“Among the creative fields suitable for the application are Crafts and Folk Art and Gastronomy which are synonymous with the city. We will choose one of these fields.

“Once it is agreed by the state government, we will make the announcement,” she said when met by reporters at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here, today.

Earlier, Nancy paid a courtesy call on Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, which among others discusses the UCCN application.

Created in 2004, the UCCN is an initiative under UNESCO to promote cooperation with and among cities around the world that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.

The UCCN comprises seven creative fields, namely Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts and Music.
