KOTA KINABALU, May 21  — Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor today ordered the use of two helicopters to send 2,000 food baskets to over 1,400 flood victims in Tenom, Beaufort and Sipitang.

Hajiji, who is also State Finance Minister, said the state government, through the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee, had approved the aid for each family housed at temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Tenom and Beaufort.

“The food assistance would also be distributed to those villages that have been cut off by the floods in some areas in Tenom.

“For Sipitang and Keningau, the food baskets will be handled by the respective district disaster committees,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the state government will also get help from the police and the Air Force.

Hajiji said the Sabah government would constantly monitor all flood-prone areas and districts, including those in need of assistance through the state and district disaster committees.

As of 8 am today, Sabah continues to record a sharp increase in the number of flood evacuees with 1,447 people affected compared to 332 victims as of 4 pm yesterday.
