TUMPAT, June 20 — The Kelantan government will ensure that the COVID-19 vaccination exercise for the people in the state is fully completed before the monsoon season begins at the end of October, thus achieving the herd immunity target in the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said that to achieve the target vaccination this month would prioritise residents at flood risk locations, among them being areas in the Tumpat parliamentary constituency.

He explained that, apart from that, the effort was also to avoid any difficulties that will be faced by the authorities when carrying out the vaccination process at the vaccination centres (PPV).

“When flood occurs, we fear that it could affect the vaccination process, with residents busy moving into temporary relief centres,” he told reporters after visiting the implementation of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Kampung Kutan Tengah at Pasir Pekan near here today.

In a related development, he said Kelantan will receive an additional 550,000 vaccine doses next month.

“We will also carry out a vaccine outreach programme in collaboration with the Tumpat parliamentary constituency office and service centre of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to give vaccination priority to residents here in early July,” he added.
