KUANTAN, July 4  — Nearly 1,000 residents in Panching Timur, Felda Bukit Sagu and Gambang Interchange, near here, enjoyed better communication networks after three telecommunication infrastructure projects, by Celcom and Digi, started operating in June.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in a statement today, said among those benefited are residents of Felda Panching Timur, Felda Bukit Sagu 1, 2 and 3, Taman Rakyat Gambang, Gambang Mosque and Gambang industrial area.

The construction of the communication infrastructure is the result of a meeting between Paya Besar MP, Mohd Shahar Abdullah, who is also the Deputy Finance Minister, with MCMC and industry players, in April.

“Several other initiatives are also planned in the Paya Besar parliamentary constituency, under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), such as the construction of 19 new towers which will begin in August, expected to be completed in stages between March and June 2022.

“In addition, work to upgrade 3G to 4G network services will also be implemented, involving 65 transmitter stations throughout the constituency for the same period,” the statement read.

MCMC also said that a total of 4,545 premises in the constituency will be involved in upgrading to fibre optic networks that enable fixed broadband access, with Gigabit speeds provided.

The upgrade work started in the first quarter of this year, and is expected to be completed in stages by the second quarter of 2022, depending on the availability of existing infrastructure.

MCMC is optimistic that the construction of telecommunications infrastructure and the implementation of initiatives under JENDELA can boost the living standards of locals, as well as smoothening their daily activities.
