KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 — The Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC) will be allowing seven main tourism activities in Langkawi in conjunction with the reopening of the island resort to local tourists on September 16.

MOTAC in statement today said the activities allowed are accommodation at hotels and homestays including all facilities within the premises of the hotel and homestay, business events such as meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (MICE)  as well as tourism and cultural events.

“Green light is also given to tourist attractions like beach activities such as water sports, snorkeling, scuba diving, tourism fishing, edutainment centres, recreational parks, extreme or adventure sports or nature parks, farms, aquarium, zoo and other recreational and social activities.

“Special interest tourism such as golf, scuba diving, cycling, angling, yachting and so on are allowed,” according to the statement.

Also allowed are eco geo-adventure activities such as camping, hiking, caving, jungle tracking and so on.

Art, culture and heritage premises such as museums, libraries, art galleries, village cultural heritage centres, cultural stage performance and others are also allowed to operate, said the statement.

According to the statement, also allow are theme parks and family entertainment centres as well as academic visits to Geopark Discovery Center, Balai Seni and Laman Padi.

MOTAC also said the list would be announced in more detail subject to current changes.

At the same time, MOTAC, is also providing more attractive tour packages for the Malaysian Family in  appreciation of their support in reviving domestic tourism when allowed.

Apart from that, MOTAC would also monitor and hold engagement sessions with tourism industry practitioners and stakeholders on expanding the tourism bubble in phases.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced that Langkawi had been selected as a pilot project for local tourists from Sept 16 while other tourism destinations would be allowed to operate when the vaccination rate of the locality achieve 80 per cent.
