IPOH, Dec 16 — The Perak government is providing post-disaster recovery assistance with cash of up to RM3,000 depending on the level of damage on their houses, as well as clothing and basic food supply for the families, the State Assembly was told today.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the assistance was given with the aim to alleviate the burden of the affected and not as compensation for the damage.

He said it was one-off aid and would be given immediately after the disaster.

“Apart from that, emotional support in the form of counselling and psychological services are also made available for the victims,” he said in reply to Mohd Zaidi Aziz (BN-Slim) during question time.

Mohd Zaidi had wanted to know the types of assistance provided by the state government to those who fell victims to disasters such as fire, floods, landslides and even fallen trees.

Saarani said the head of the affected households can apply for the recovery aid at the state’s Department of Social Welfare by providing the necessary documents, such as copies of their identity card, police report and pictures as proof.

Meanwhile, Saarani said the Perak State Disaster and Social Relief Fund is also providing cash aid of RM300 to each family affected by disaster, either evacuated or not to the temporary relief centre.

“For victims whose houses were destroyed in disasters, the state government is giving RM2,000 for a fully destroyed house, RM500 to RM800 for damage to basic home facilities, and RM200 for damage to home appliances,” he said, adding that head of households must be registered with JKM to apply.
