HULU LANGAT, Dec 20 — Jamzuri Sarijo looked weary and tired as he sat staring at the site of his family home at Batu 18, Kampung Jawa here, which was washed away by the massive floods that hit the Klang Valley, last Saturday.
When approached, the 49-year-old cattle farmer said in the incident at about 12 midnight, last Saturday, the 70-year-old house which had belonged to his grandmother was gone.
“Before that, I managed to take my wife and three children aged six to 16 to safety at a nearby hill area..
“At that time, the water was already at chest level. When I was going to rush into the house to salvage some important documents, I saw our wooden ancestral house drifting away,” he said when met at the location today.
Jamzuri said the floods this time was the worst that had ever happened in the village as previously, when the floods occur there was no damage to properties.
A check by Bernama found that the situation around the village was like a Hollywood movie set as there were many cars overturned and some houses moved from their original position.
In addition, the 18-kilometre stretch leading to the village was like a newly-opened area which had just been cleared as the ground was covered with mud, soil and debris bought by the floodwaters.
Also badly-hit was Ahmad Zamri Daud, 55, who incurred losses of about RM80,000 when his house and steel workshop was submerged under water.
“Everything happened so quickly, I had no time to salvage anything ….all the equipment in the workshop are ruined.
“The water began to recede yesterday afternoon, when I saw all the items in the house and workshop full of sludge … I wondered how I am going to start all over again,” he said while hoping that the authorities would take immediate action to resolve the flood issue in Kampung Jawa.
Hulu Langat areas such as Batu 18, Sungai Lui and Taman Sri Nanding are among the areas severely affected by the floods, which left many with just the clothes on their backs as they could not save any of their possession due to the sudden rise in water level.
