JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 6 — The Higher Education Ministry (KPT) distributed 2,000 aid boxes of essential items to flood victims in Segamat and Tangkak to lighten their burden.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the aid boxes were contributed by Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).

“The aid mission today was a continuation of KPT’s efforts to assist those affected in the flood disaster since the middle of December,” she said in a statement today.

She said as a strategic response, the mission was mobilised since Dec 19 in line with the activation of KPT Flood Operations Room to coordinate the distribution of assistance to students of the Institutes of Higher Education and the community.

She said so far, 23,745 volunteers have been deployed involving 4,610 volunteers of KPT and agencies as well as 19,135 volunteers from public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges.
