RIYADH, Feb 3 — Saudi Arabia is participating for the first time in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games scheduled to be held on Feb 4, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Three players qualified for the Olympics, namely Faeq Abidi, Salman Al-Hweish and Rakan Rida after they collected qualifying points as the first Saudi and Gulf athletes to qualify for the Winter Olympics, where their qualification marks the first for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the alpine skiing competitions.

The Olympic and Paralympic committees announced choosing Abidi to represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Olympics after the technical preference that was made among qualifiers in coordination with the Saudi Winter Sports Federation, especially that the regulations identified one seat for the Kingdom in the alpine skiing.

Around 3,000 athletes are participating in this year’s Winter Olympics in 15 games.
