KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15  — The public is urged to rise up and become a support system for enabling young people to be given a role in shaping a stronger and more stable Malaysia in political, economic and social aspects.

Belia #RasuahBusters together with its affiliates in a joint statement today said they viewed youths as the roots that would bring more competitive, progressive, innovative characters with a high sense of morality and dignity to drive the transformation of the country.

According to the statement, the country’s political, economic and social landscapes can be strengthened in line with a rapidly progressing world with the direct involvement of youths through ideologies worked out from academic research, technological reform, energy capacity and their ability to form comprehensive social reform initiatives.

“The Undi18 initiative which puts the voting power in the hands of young people including students should be used as an opportunity to reject toxic leadership and corruption from further destroying their future,” it said, adding that youths should also step forward to help shape the country’s policies and laws.

The joint statement was issued by 91 youth organisations including UNDI18, IKRAM Muda Malaysia, Majlis Belia Malaysia, Pertubuhan Belia KerapatanGraduan Muda (KAGUM), University of Malaya Association of New Youth (UMANY), Malaysia Cyber Consumer Association (MCCA), Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS), Malaysian Hindu Youth Council and Eight Major Chinese Youth Organisation (EMCO).

In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, Belia #RasuahBusters and its affiliates believe that young people should also be brave to advocate for rights such as ensuring the quality of education, health, environment and job opportunities for economic and social sustainability.

“As important assets to the country, the integrated commitment of the youth is a ray of hope for the birth of a progressive, transparent, and honest nation.

“Start by electing leaders who are not corrupt. Do not let corruption rob the future of young Malaysians,” read the statement.
