KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — A total of 100 asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) students today received zakat contributions in the form of the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) Prime accounts worth RM100 each involving an allocation of RM10,000 in the SSPN 2022 Langkawi Savings Tour Programme.

In a statement, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) said the programme implemented since 2019, involved the provision of PTPTN zakat contributions to 3,000 asnaf students from 30 selected areas, including Langkawi this year.

“The aim of the sponsorship programme is to help asnaf students from the education aspect as well as to give early encouragement to start saving for their higher education needs,” according to the statement today.

According to PTPTN,  the SSPN Savings Tour Programme also aims to bring PTPTN closer to the community to create awareness of savings through SSPN Savings to ensure the future of young Malaysians.

Meanwhile, PTPTN chairman Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the programme is a testament to its continued commitment to help and support the community in education.

“Such a programme will definitely benefit the community and help those in need,” he said.

“I take this opportunity to call for savings through Simpan SSPN to be the main option by providing incentives, prizes of excellence, co-curriculum for students.”

Wan Saiful said PTPTN also welcomed the cooperation from various other agencies to jointly cultivate the practice of savings and support PTPTN’s efforts as the leader of the national higher education fund.

The SSPN 2022 Langkawi Savings Tour Programme today was officiated by Wan Saiful in a ceremony which was also attended by members of the PTPTN management board and Kedah Education Department deputy director of Education (Student Development Sector), Sabri Osman.

In the meantime, PTPTN said Simpan SSPN is the best platform to encourage parents to start saving so that their children will not have to drop out of higher education due to financial problems.

He added that PTPTN is always concerned about helping the community, especially the asnaf through its corporate social responsibility programmes.
