KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 – The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), a statutory body that regulates corporate and business affairs in the country, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year since its establishment on April 16, 2002.

SSM chief executive officer Datuk Nor Azimah Abdul Aziz said the 20th anniversary celebration will carry the theme “Two Decades of SSM: Inspiring Business Confidence” to mark the evolution, journey and achievements of the agency in the last 20 years. 

The anniversary celebration, which will be held at SSM headquarters on April 15, will be officiated by Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. 

“SSM has organised various activities and programmes for the historic anniversary celebration. We truly appreciate the customers of SSM who have supported our services in the past 20 years. SSM welcomes the attendance of the public to participate in the activities organised for our 20th anniversary celebration from April 12 to 15,” she told Bernama.

Among the programme highlights is a corporate talk titled “MyCoID – Start Your Own Company Now” on  April 15, which will focus on how to incorporate a company through the online platform MyCoID.

Participants of the corporate talk will get a point for the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) programme, which is one of the conditions for business licence renewal aimed at ensuring company secretaries are highly qualified to do their job.

SSM has also organised the Biztalk programme with three interesting topics, namely Company Limited By Guarantee: Things To Know; SSM Corporate Information: Accurate  & Fast; and Companies Act 2016: Common Offences from April 12 to 15.

Besides that, there are also retail and exhibition booths, such as advisory counters to help the public get advice on business and company registration and other business affairs related to SSM.

“The highlight of SSM’s 20th anniversary celebration will be the launch of a publication titled “SSM Dua Dekad: Inspirasi Kepercayaan Perniagaan” which documents all of SSM’s achievements in the last 20 years,” the commission said.

SSM said it has organised various activities and programmes which involved all its divisions, state offices and branches nationwide to enliven the special occasion.

Among the initiatives that had been launched included the Entrepreneur Guidance Programme 2022 (PBU22) on Feb 24, which attracted over 1,000 entrepreneurs from the B40 low income group.

In March, SSM had organised a mobile business registration counter called  Ezbiz On.The.Go at the Taman Midah morning market, a virtual run and a corporate social responsibility handover programme to Karunai Illam Welfare Home and Cahaya Hati Selangor as well as  SSM retirees.

Apart from all that, SSM also organised the Young Entrepreneurs Programme on March 31 which involved the participation of over 1,200 students from the Putrajaya Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) Centre, GIATMARA Kuala Lumpur Training Centre, Putrajaya Department of Polytechnic Education and Putrajaya Community College.

SSM also donated medical equipment to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang, witnessed by Alexander.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Rosol Wahid also participated in the SSM Mega Walkabout programme at Tapak Bazar Ramadhan@TLK Taman Tasik Permaisuri, Cheras and the Zakat Contribution to  Asnaf Entrepreneurs event on April 8, where he mingled with 200 entrepreneurs at the location.

The programme was held simultaneously in four states – Johor, Pahang, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan. The Mega Walkabout event will also be held in selected locations nationwide.

SSM, which started operations on April 16, 2002, is a statutory body formed from the merger of the Registrar of Companies (ROC) and the Registrar of Business (ROB).

As the leading authority for the improvement of corporate governance in Malaysia, the commission handles monitoring and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with business registration and corporate legislation.

SSM also enforces several acts of law, among them the Companies Commission Act 2001, Companies Act 2016, Interest Schemes Act 2016, Business Registration Act 1956, Shared Limited Liability Act 2012, Trustee Company Act 1949 and Kootu Funds Act 1971.
