KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — The 11th Chief of Defence Force Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Dr Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid died early this morning at the Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital (HTTM), here due to a lung infection. He was 83.

The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Headquarters, in a statement said that Abdul Rahman was admitted to HTTM on May 25 and his health began to deteriorate yesterday. He breathed his last at 2.15am.

“Funeral prayers will be held at the Khalid Al Walid Mosque at the Defence Ministry, here after the Zohor prayers.

“Abdul Rahman will be laid to rest at the Sakinah Raudah Muslim Cemetery, Sungai Besi,” it said.

Abdul Rahman joined the armed forces in 1955 and was appointed as the Chief of Defence Force in April 1992 before retiring in February 1994.

He leaves behind his wife Puan Sri Rosilah Ahmad and four children.

Meanwhile, in a post on the MAF’s official Facebook page, Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang and Malaysian Armed Forces Family Welfare Association Supreme Council chairman Puan Sri Tengku Muhaini Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, as well as all MAF members conveyed their condolences to Abdul Rahman’s family.

“May Allah SWT reward him for all his good deeds and contributions. Let us recite the Al-Fatihah. May his soul be blessed and placed among the faithful. Amin,” read the posting.
