BELURAN, June 13 — A total of RM528,000 has been allocated for the purchase of a shop lot building here, which will be turned into the Beluran Area Fishermen’s Association (PNK) office, said Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee.

He said the allocation was one of the government’s efforts to ensure the sustainability of the country’s food supply through the fisheries sector.

“It will also enable the fisheries sector to increase its self-sufficient level to 100 per cent.

“Various programmes will continue to be implemented so that the country does not depend on import supplies,” he told reporters after handing over the Sara Hidup Nelayan Allowance (ESHN) payment to fishermen under the Beluran PNK, here today.

Ronald, who is also Beluran Member of Parliament, said at the event a total of 619 Beluran PNK members received the ESHN assistance involving an allocation of RM176,000.

According to him, a total of RM22 million in ESHN assistance has been channelled to 7,671 fishermen in Sabah this year.
