JOHOR BAHRU, July 24 — Johor is a pioneer in performance based road concession contracts having signed deals estimated at RM601 million, said Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghaz.
He said this holistic approach was a more quantifiable key performance measure for services delivered by the companies appointed to ensure better quality roads in the future for the comfort of road users in Johor.
He said the contract period between the Works Ministry (KKR) and Selia Selenggara Selatan Sdn Bhd which commenced last June would last until Feb 2026.
“In addition, the federal government has also channeled an allocation of RM126.23 million this year for the maintenance of federal roads in the state,” he said through a Facebook post today.
Elaborating, Onn Hafiz said KKR has also approved several road projects in the state including the Pasir Gudang Expressway which was being upgraded from four to six lanes from Bandar Seri Alam Taman Rinting to Pasir Gudang, at a cost of RM155 million.
He said the directional ramp at the Senai Desaru Expressway (SDE)-Bandar Penawar intersection was also under construction at a cost of RM129.2 million.
“The bypass from Matriculation College to Tangkak Industrial Area on Jalan Muar-Tangkak-Segamat is being upgraded at a cost of RM269 million,” he said adding that construction of median openings, U-turn and related work was in progress from Parit Sempadan, Batu Pahat (Section 21) until the bridge across the north-south highway (PLUS) (section 34.5) involving a cost of RM250 million.
He added that the Kota Tinggi bypass bridge was also being upgraded at a cost of RM126.4 million and road repairs and upgrading work in front of Sultanah Aminah Hospital involved costs of RM800,000.
He thanked Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof for approving the road projects in Johor and the opportunity to attend the 2022 All-Malaysia JKR (SURYA) Sports Carnival dinner last night.
