KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 (Bernama) — A team, known as Merdeka Quartet, which was proposed by the Information Department, has been formed to assist the National Day and Malaysia Day publicity machinery in motivating the Malaysian Family (Keluarga Malaysia) to participate in the celebrations.

The quartet consisted of Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alaxender Nanta Linggi.

Director of the Media and Corporate Communications Division,  Information Department,  Datuk E. Sivabalan said the establishment of the quartet was agreed upon at the National Day and Malaysia Day Celebration Main Committee meeting last Wednesday.

“We will identify the  slots on television and radio for the Merdeka Quartet to go as a group and explain about this year’s celebrations, with Saravanan and Wee to deliver the messages in Tamil and Mandarin, respectively.

“This is one of our political will. The cabinet ministers will be together with the people and be an inspiration to Keluarga Malaysia,” he said on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme, with the title ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign” last night.

Meanwhile, Sivabalan said the people’s participation in this year’s National Month celebration was quite encouraging. It was launched  by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob last  July 30

He said this was  proven with the participation of 15,000 people, which exceeded the target of 10,000 people,  in the “Berjalan Teguh Bersama” programme that was held in Putrajaya last Saturday.

On the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign, Sivabalan said the Keluarga Malaysia are reminded to fly the national flag because it is a symbol of the country’s dignity and to show their patriotic spirit.

“We hope the Keluarga Malaysia will fly the Jalur Gemilang wherever they are, in their homes, business premises or their office,” he said.
