PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 —  The Immigration Department will work with relevant enforcement agencies to provide exposure and advocacy to members of the public so that they are not deceived by fraudulent tactics that offer employment abroad, said its director-general, Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

He said such a programme needs to be implemented to enable the social media platforms of each enforcement agency to be used to widely disseminate relevant information about fraud tactics to the community, including in rural areas and the interior.

“We are looking into it (to educate the public on scams). This is because the Immigration Department cannot stop Malaysians from travelling abroad unless they are listed as individuals prohibited from going abroad,” he said at a press conference after the pre-launch ceremony of Immigration Run 2022, here today.

He was commenting on the role of the Immigration Department in ensuring that Malaysians are not victimised by fraudulent syndicates that offer lucrative jobs abroad through social media.

The media previously reported that 16 Malaysians were victims of fraud advertising job opportunities as customer service officers in Cambodia, instead, they were forced to become scammers in that country.

Meanwhile, commenting on the Immigration Run 2022, Khairul Dzaimee said that his department is targeting 3,000 participants, including its staff and members of the public, to take part in three categories, which are five kilometres (km), 10km and 15km.

The event will be held on Sept 4, starting from the Immigration Department headquarters compound here.
