KUANTAN, Aug 24 — Relevant parties have been urged to expedite the restoration of the construction project of the new building for the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Jeram, said Indera Mahkota member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said that currently the school, which also uses a cabin as a classroom to accommodate 46 students, 10 teachers and an administrative assistant, is on land owned by real estate developer PASDEC Holdings Bhd, and it is understood is planning to use the land for commercial development.

The land allotted for the construction of a new school building has been approved approximately 2 kilometres from the current building, but it is understood that there is an issue with the appointment of a contractor, even though it was initially scheduled to be completed in 2018.

“Earthwork at the new location has been done, and we request that the construction of the school be expedited because it has been so long. PASDEC is very considerate in this issue, and did not say when they need to vacate (the land), but sent a letter asking about the development status (new school building).

“We are also requesting PASDEC to continue to allow the school to use this land until the new building is completed because if not, it could cause hardship to the students here,” he said after visiting the school here today.

He said the chairman of the school’s governing board, Datuk K. Nadeson, had also written a letter to Deputy Education Minister, Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, on July 12, requesting assistance to speed up the construction of the school’s new building.

The school was originally built, using wood, in 1952 by Jeram Estate Sdn Bhd before being demolished after being sold to Pasdec for a residential development project around the 90s.

In another development, Saifuddin, who is also the Foreign Minister, said that he would help with the issue of the status of land approved for the temple construction site in Kampung Tiram, Indera Mahkota, involving the relocation of two temples, the Atabara Amman Temple and the Seri Muniswaran Temple, which were combined to form the Hindu Aalayam Indera Mahkota.

He said that the two temples were previously located in the Atabara Estate and opposite the Teruntum Complex in Kuantan and were given a piece of land as a replacement with approval from the state government in 1996, but it was difficult for the parties concerned to find construction funds because the status of the land had yet to be finalised.
