SERDANG, Aug 25 — The implementation of phase one of a project to increase internet access at the Community Development Department (Kemas) preschools (tabika) is expected to start at the end of this year, said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
In May Mahdzir said the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) would collaborate with the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) to ensure that the digitalisation effort at Kemas preschools throughout the country can be implemented more effectively.
He said he had recently met with the Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa in connection with the project at 11,000 preschools, adding that K-KOMM has given its support to KPLB’s intention to proceed with the project.
“The need to provide internet facilities, especially for preschools located in the interior, is an effort to ensure that the Tabika Kemas Early Childhood Education Digital Transformation Plan runs smoothly to further boost early childhood talent development,” he told reporters after attending the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between Universiti Putra Malaysia and the Film Directors’ Association of Malaysia here today.
Mahdzir said KPLB will hold an engagement session with the Ministry of Finance next month to discuss the allocations and implementation method of the project.
