KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — With the aim of intensifying entrepreneurial activities among Malaysians, UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) today launched the UDA USHAniaga Keluarga Malaysia Carnival, which runs till October.

The carnival will be held in stages involving five locations namely Odeon Walk here from Aug 26-28; Pusat Komersial Tasek Gelugor, Penang (Sept 16-18), Serambi Teruntum in Kuantan, Pahang (Sept 23-25); Angsana Ipoh Mall, Perak (Sept 30-Oct 2) and Angsana Johor Bahru Mall, Johor (Oct 21-23).

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said UDA introduced the carnival as a new approach to helping Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

“Prior to this, UDA had begun assisting entrepreneurs, but when the Prime Minister approved an RM100 million special allocation to UDA to help entrepreneurs, this programme was organised to help them,” he said at a press conference after the opening ceremony of the carnival here today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob officiated at the event which was also attended by UDA chairman Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim.

Noh said the carnival was organised to help entrepreneurs, seeing that most of them were trying to get back on their feet after more than two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Due to this, we want to encourage (participation) of entrepreneurs (through the carnival) especially from micro, small and medium enterprises, which are among the highest contributors to the gross domestic product (GDP) in the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Norliza in a statement said that UDA was aiming for the participation of 100 entrepreneurs for each location, and hoped that the initiative could boost the involvement of the public to enter the field of entrepreneurship, especially among women and youths.

She said the aim of involving women, youth and graduates was to foster entrepreneurship among the next generation, thereby opening more job opportunities and bridging the economic gap in Keluarga Malaysia (the Malaysian Family).

“UDA always takes proactive steps to ensure that entrepreneurs always remain competitive and capable of sustaining their business, especially when the country’s economy is recovering,” she said.

Explaining the acronym USHA, she said it meant ‘UDA Sempurnakan Hari Anda’ (UDA Completes Your Day), and that it was UDA’s aspiration to provide opportunities and a platform to empower and advance entrepreneurs from various backgrounds.

The carnival, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives including several agencies of the ministry, has various activities in store including exhibitions and sales booths from each UDA business segment which includes real estate, hotels, business premises and facilities management.

UDA has also organised the UDA Ria Property Campaign 2022 simultaneously at the carnival, as an approach to reach out to the local community and help buyers choose their dream property.
