KUCHING, Nov 3 — Petra Jaya, categorised as an urban area, can be a pioneer in implementing the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) in Sarawak to overcome the current traffic congestion problem therey.

Senior Works Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, said ITS implementation was among his focus areas in upgrading the infrastructure, besides educational development and improving the socioeconomy of residents in this parliamentary constituency.

“We need planning to not only enhance the infrastructure but also to use technology which can manage the traffic problem efficiently and effectively.

“As Petra Jaya is an urban area, the cost of living is high, so we also want to help the residents increase their income,” he told reporters, here, today.

Fadillah, who is also the senior vice-president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and has been the Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya since 2004, said that he would continue with efforts to inculcate interest among the young generation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in achieving the Sarawak Post-COVID-19 Development Strategies (PCDS) 2030.

Earlier, Fadillah handed out 77 Huawei MediaPads contributed by Huawei Technologies Sdn Bhd for school students from the B40 group from around Petra Jaya through the Sarawak Multimedia Authority.
