MUAR, Nov 13 — The electoral roll for the 15th General Election (GE15) can be purchased by any individual from the Election Commission (EC) said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

However, if the electoral was accompanied by the individual’s phone number, that electoral roll was not purchased from the EC.

“I wish to inform that voters can purchase the electoral role from the EC, why need to buy from syndicates? The electoral roll can be bought from the EC but if the names of voters is accompanied by their phone number, that is not bought from the EC.

“There have been no reports on that issue for now. I think so far the EC understands that anyone can buy the Electoral roll from the EC,” he told reporters after a briefing session on preparations for floods and GE15 at Maktab Teknik Polis Diraja Malaysia, Bakri, here today.

The media had reported that more than 800,000 data of users had been obtained from the MySPR and sold at RM9,401 at a popular data base.

Meanwhile, Hamzah who is the incumbent Larut Member of Parliament said 130 police reports have been received for various offences involving the GE15 in Johor.

Hamzah also added that no police reports have been received over allegations that armed forces personnel who were involved in early voting for the GE15 were paid RM300 in Bera, Pahang.
