KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 – A total of 40 Malaysians have completed their Chevening Awards Programme in the United Kingdom (UK) and returned home to help realise Malaysia’s visions and potential.
British High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay said that 2021/2022 returning Chevening Scholars are a testament to the strong links between the UK and Malaysia in education.
“After a year of studying in the UK, they have returned to Malaysia equipped with the skills, knowledge and global network to make positive, lasting change in their sectors and communities.
“Thirty of last year’s scholars are here with us today, having undertaken a wide variety of courses ranging from Environmental Technology, Gender and Development, International Studies and Diplomacy to Public Health,” he said at a reception to welcome home the returning batch of Malaysian Chevening Scholars from the 2021/2022 academic year, here, today.
He said Chevening is a great example of the UK’s continuous commitment to supporting the future leaders of Malaysia to experience world-class education in the UK.
“ I am proud to share that we have received over 700 applications for this year’s Chevening scholarships in Malaysia and will be interviewing them over the coming weeks,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the scholars, Lim Ming Yao, who completed his Master’s degree in Public Health, said the Chevening programme created opportunities for him to meet and network with people from different countries and backgrounds.
“During that time, I met a few scholars from the Chevening programme, like a dentist from Palestine, an engineer from Iraq and many more. It allowed me to broaden my perspective of the world and deepen my understanding of various cultures,” he said.
