KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 – The Malaysian Institute of Accountants’ (MIA) will continue to make digital transformation a priority in order to ensure that the accounting profession stays relevant in the present and future.
Its chief executive officer Dr Wan Ahmad Rudirman Wan Razak said in this regard, MIA has drawn up a number of initiatives to promote the adoption of digital technologies in the accounting profession.
“These include creating a Digital Economy page on the MIA website, launching the MIA Digital Month, conducting the third technology adoption survey and publishing a study report on the adoption of emerging technologies in accounting programmes by higher learning institutions in Malaysia,” he told Bernama recently.
On MIA Digital Month 2023 or MDM 2023, Wan Ahmad Rudirman said an online convention themed “Digital Evolution: Paving the Way Forward” would take place on Feb 16.
He said four complimentary webinars would be held each week during the month-long MDM 2023, featuring prominent speakers and various topics such as digitalisation of the accounting profession and cyber security.
Wan Ahmad Rudirman hoped that MDM 2023 would provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to support business continuity and sustainable national development in this digital age.
He said for the first time, MIA would introduce the Digital Technology Adoption Awards (DTAA) to recognise the outstanding achievements of companies and public sector entities in the adoption of digital technology applications in the fields of accounting and finance.
“MDM 2023 will continue with the organisation of the annual MIA AccTech Conference 2023 from March 14 to 15.
“Come and join us at the MIA AccTech Conference 2023 where will talk about new opportunities and challenges that may arise in your digital evolution journey,” he said.
Apart from that, he said MIA would also organise its annual MIA International Accountant Conference 2023, which is expected to attract local and foreign delegates.
Themed “Future Fit Profession: Charting A Better Tomorrow”, the conference is expected to draw over 3,000 delegates and will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from June 13 to 14.
Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Rudirman said MIA would continue to work with international bodies and coordinate initiatives in line with the global accounting profession agenda.
“It will be implemented as supported by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA), International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), and the International Ethical Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA),” he said.
Wan Ahmad Rudirman said MIA will also strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Finance on the proposed new Accountants Act and its implementation, in addition to continuing to work with industry regulators to ensure good governance.
