KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 – Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has recently signed an agreement with Ain-Integrated Logistics Solutions (Ain-ILS) Group to collaborate on various initiatives aimed at supporting a greener and cleaner future.

In a statement today, UTP said the partnership will focus on biomass valorisation and fuel production, as well as other projects that align with a sustainable business ecosystem and cleaner environment.

Through the collaboration, UTP and Ain-ILS Group, comprising Integrated Logistics Solutions Sdn Bhd, Gas Pantai Timur Sdn Bhd, Ain Medicare Sdn Bhd and Ain Biomass Industries Sdn Bhd, will work together to develop and implement innovative technologies that can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the use of renewable energy sources.

“The partnership also aims to create an inclusive and more sustainable economy that benefits all stakeholders, including businesses, communities, and the environment,” the statement said.

UTP vice-chancellor Prof Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib signed the agreement on behalf of the university, while Ain-ILS Group was represented by its chairman Datuk Wan Ariff Wan Hamzah.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by UTP Technology Transfer Office senior director Dali Abdul Latiff Aw and Integrated Logistics Solutions director Wan Abdul Halim Wan Ahmad.

In the same statement, Mohamed Ibrahim said UTP is excited to partner with Ain-ILS Group to promote greener and cleaner initiatives for a sustainable future that will benefit the environment, economy and society.

“With the existence of UTP’s Centre for Biofuel and Biochemical Research (CBBR) and Centre of Urban Resource Sustainability (CUReS), the university is ready to ramp up its collaborative research with Ain-ILS Group to monetise different biomass resources via greener and cleaner technologies.

“UTP’s expertise extends across a range of biofuels derived from various resources. Its researchers‭ ‬have‭ ‬achieved‭ ‬breakthroughs‭ ‬in‭ ‬the‭ ‬development‭ ‬and‭ ‬‭demonstration of biofuel processes and continue to lead in the development of clean fuels,” he said, adding that this is in line with Petronas’ aspiration to move towards Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2050.

Meanwhile, Wan Ariff said the collaboration was an ideal combination in the reality of business life to get the support of dedicated research and development team in UTP.

“This partnership spreads across the scope of biomass, biofuels and green energy for utility and transportation. The synergies arising from these engagements are from the basis of efforts in prospecting cutting-edge technological know-how and promoting the development of sustainable and renewable energy.

“Ain-ILS Group and UTP will play proactive roles in commercialising all joint-research results based on the scope mentioned. New paradigms are necessary to build a sustainable social economy of tomorrow within this group of companies towards a clean, reliable, sustainable, and affordable energy supply.

“I am looking forward to the new and exciting phase of the partnership in the sustainable technology sectors to promote all industrial companies to decarbonise their operations at all levels,” he added.
