KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 – Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD) and SME Bank are organising the participation of 11 Malaysian food and beverages (F&B) companies in the Export Acceleration Mission (EAM) to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a statement today, MATRADE said the EAM is held in conjunction with Gulfood 2023 from Feb 18-25, 2023, with the objective of showcasing Malaysia’s capabilities and expertise in providing world-class F&B products and services.

It said the aim was also to enable the companies to venture into the global market, particularly the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, by connecting with prominent buyers.

MATRADE deputy chief executive officer (Exporters Development) Abu Bakar Yusof said the agency this year continues to strengthen the strategic collaboration with MECD and SME Bank in implementing export-related programmes.

“The complementary roles assumed by these export ecosystem players will facilitate more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to establish their global footprints.

“This EAM is also an initiative to uplift SMEs’ contribution to Malaysia’s exports to 25 per cent by 2025, as per target set under the 12th Malaysia Plan,” he said.

For the year 2022, a total of four initiatives were carried out under the collaboration with MECD and SME Bank, assisting 42 SMEs from various sectors including F&B, healthcare, ICT, oil and gas, and were able to generate a total of RM242.1 million worth of export sales, MATRADE said.
