PUTRAJAYA, Feb 25 – Forty-two tonnes of humanitarian aid from Malaysia meant for the earthquake victims in Syria arrived at the Aleppo International Airport.

Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the aid will be distributed by the Syrian Red Cross (SARC) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The aid delivered through the cooperation of Malaysia and the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) includes four generators, medications, tents, carpets and indoor separators, personal protective equipment, clothing and blanket, baby needs and ready to eat food.

“The aid is to fulfill the urgent need of the earthquake victims based on the evaluation report by the recce team from Malaysian that met with the representatives of the Syrian government and the related parties from 15-19 Feb,” he said.

The aid was delivered using two special flights operated by the Malaysian Armed Forces using the A400M and a plane chartered from the UAE Red Crescent (ERC).

Wisma Putra said the Malaysian government is committed in the effort to deliver humanitarian assistance to Syria based on the comprehensive report from the recce team to ensure the aid from Malaysia an the non-governmental organisations fulfills the needs of the victims.
