TAPAH, March 21 — Perak Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) provided an additional supply of 290,000 eggs since last December for the state’s needs, especially to meet demand during Ramadan.

State Fama director Noorsham Ramly said the agency obtained egg supplies from various states including Melaka.

“Ahead of Ramadan, the supply of eggs for the state is sufficient and if there is a need, we will try to meet the needs of consumers.

“The average supply of eggs is around 72,000 eggs per month and it is expected that the demand will double to meet the needs during the months of Ramadan and Syawal,” he said after attending the Madani Ramadan Sales programme here today.

Also present was the state Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun.

Among the 12 farmer market locations involved in the programme include Agrobazaar Semanggol, Trong, Taman Jana, Mat Frozen and Kekal Lekir Farmers Market, Tanjung Malim, Gerik, Tapah, Seri Iskandar, Kuala Kangsar, Kampung Simee and Medan Gopeng.

Meanwhile, Noorsham said Perak Fama is targeting a sales value of RM1 million through the programme which will give consumers the opportunity to get essential supplies to celebrate Ramadan at a cheaper price.

“The speciality of this programme is a special price sale that provides a price reduction of around five to 10 per cent on selected products and during ‘happy hour’ slots.

“Fama also cooperates with the Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation to help the community get eggs, chicken, vegetables and fruits at low prices,” he said.
