KOTA BHARU, April 4 — Kelantan police have so far received 85 applications for permits to sell firecrackers and fireworks from traders in the state.

State police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said of the total, 34 applications were approved, 48 were still being reviewed and three were rejected.

“We expect more traders to apply for the permit and there will be no objection if they meet the prescribed conditions and do not affect public safety.

“Traders must sell only permitted firecrackers and fireworks and ensure that they do it at appropriate premises. They (traders) must also sell firecrackers at places that are stated in their applications,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the bubur lambuk distribution programme at the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters here today.

On the reasons why the permit applications were rejected, Muhamad Zaki said the traders failed to meet the conditions set, including the use of inappropriate premises.

“We will conduct monitoring from time to time to ensure that traders who get the permits comply with the conditions,” he said.
