SEREMBAN, April 4 — The Negeri Sembilan Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) identified 30 illegal dumpsite hotspots for a period of three months since January this year.

Its director Siti Yusnita Mohamad Yusof said most of the illegal dumpsites were in areas under the purview of the Seremban City Council with waste being piled up in deserted places and abandoned buildings by irresponsible parties.

“The locations include industrial areas and private land where commercial waste such as plastic, boxes, old furniture and construction waste are frequently thrown out,” she told Bernama today.

Siti Yusnita said those caught dumping waste illegally will be charged under Section 71 of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) which carries a minimum fine of RM10,000 and a maximum of RM100,000.

Meanwhile, she said Negeri Sembilan SWCorp has disposed of 5,437 tonnes of solid waste at landfills in the state since the beginning of Ramadan until March 30.
