KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has advised those travelling back to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidilfitri to prioritise safety.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is the Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament, wants everyone to ensure a safe journey to their hometowns and then return back to work.

“Be careful on the road is not just a slogan but a practice,” she told reporters after handing out ‘duit raya’ and Aidilfitri souvenirs as well as wishing express bus passengers a safe journey at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) here today.

Accompanying her in presenting duit raya and souvenirs was Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, who was on a working visit to TBS.

Dr Wan Azizah said statistics based on the Statistics on Causes of Death, Malaysia 2021 shows road accidents were the second highest cause of death in the 15 to 40 age-group category involving 1,741 cases.

For the 0-14 age category, road accidents were the highest cause followed by other diseases and drowning.

She also said based on a briefing given, there were 25,000 passengers who entered and exited TBS today.

“This shows that there is a rise in the use of public transport. I want to wish everyone a Selamat Hari Raya,” she added.
